| Bio | Rafa is a multi instrumentalist who has followed his musical whims across the globe. Moving from the hot megalopolis of his hometown São Paulo to the gritty streets of London, to the frozen wilderness of Sweden, and finally to reside in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia.
Performance has always been an integral part of Rafa’s music expression. As a young budding actor, he began writing music for the plays he wrote as part of a theatre group. Then, at the age of 26, Rafa was handed a guitar by his mother before she returned to Brazil, her parting words “create!”. The fire was lit and what resulted was a unique collision of alt Indie Rock, Latin rhythms and Blues.
As with all his projects he hopes to create an immersive experience, constructing a satirical act around the endless greediness of neo liberal western society and its xenophobic culture uniting his two passions, music and theatrics.
As a self-proclaimed citizen of the world, Rafa is used to making himself at home in unfamiliar environments and this spirit of exploration extends into his music. There is a balance of contrasting, interwoven elements present in his songs; whether it’s shredding a heavy guitar in an old-style Brazilian Samba, or dirty blues licks played with the delicacy of a Debussy prelude. Whatever the style, it is always done with a simple joy for creation.
