For the first time in the history of the National Campus Music Competition, a hip-hop artist has been crowned the winner of the Live Bands & Performers category.
MUKA VHATTI is made up of past and present students of Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia. Front man, Tamuka Chimanya says that ‘the opportunity to fly to Sydney for the Final has been one of my proudest moments so far…. the hype i am feeling is unbelievable’.
Having relocated to Perth, from Zimbabwe in 2005 with his family, Tamuka’s passion for music started young and he did his first performances in year 9 at high school. Now at twenty years of age, having recently lost his biggest fan, his Dad, at 49 to a long fight with cancer, Tamuka has decided to follow his dream of a career in music ‘because if not now, then when? Life is short!’
Over the past two years, Muka Vhatti has been performing regularly in the hip-hop scenes of Perth and Melbourne, most recently touring and collaborating with renowned hip-hop artist Arno Faraji ‘his journey has inspired me! The sky is the limit!’. The hard work has paid off, recently going into the studio with Sydney producer, Tasker to create a proper banger which they will be working on a music video for over the coming months, so keep an eye out for it to drop.
‘Music is my passion and i have so much i want to share with the world’, and the comp is so proud to be a part of the Muka Vhatti journey which is only just beginning.
